Athens forest fire now under control

As temperatures rise around the globe, the frequency of forest fires continues to increase. Most recently, a forest fire erupted on Mount Parnitha, located about 20 kilometers north of Athens, the capital of Greece.

Officials reported that the fire, which ignited in the area and was battled by 200 firefighters, proved difficult to contain due to strong winds. Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias issued a statement mentioning that while the fire no longer has an active front, there is still much work to be done. “We will be working tirelessly throughout the night,” Kikilias assured.

Today alone, approximately 50 forest fires were recorded across the country amidst hot and windy conditions. Authorities have urged citizens to steer clear of wooded areas for their safety. Meteorologists forecast that the wind will persist until tomorrow.

Fortunately, the forest fires in the Kaçimidi and Parnitha regions, situated approximately 50 kilometers from Athens, have been brought under control. Both ground and aerial efforts were implemented to extinguish the blaze, allowing residents to breathe a sigh of relief.
