Athletes at World Nomad Games Plant Trees in Astana

Participants from various countries joined forces to plant 50 spruce and pine seedlings along Turan Avenue in Astana as part of the Taza Kazakhstan eco-campaign on Sept. 11. The Togyzkumalak competition brought together delegates from the Kyrgyz Republic, Hungary, Germany, Bangladesh, Argentina, and other nations to contribute to the city’s greenery.

In addition to the tree-planting activity, the initiative included the beautification of flower beds near the Khan Shatyr shopping center. This effort was a collaborative one, with city activists and district officials working together to enhance the green spaces along one of Astana’s busiest avenues.

Vice President of Kazakhstan’s Togyzkumalak Federation Akim Tursyn noted that representatives from 41 countries participated in the tree-planting event. The competition itself began on Sept. 10 in Astana, with the Kazakhstan team earning three gold medals and ranking first in the team standings.

The Taza Kazakhstan eco-campaign, which has been ongoing since April, has been instrumental in engaging residents in various environmental initiatives, such as tree planting, river cleaning, and combating illegal dumping. These efforts are aimed at improving the overall environment and sustainability of the city.

The event symbolized the importance of environmental protection, with Tursyn emphasizing that the Nomad Games represent the values of honoring Mother Earth. The proposal to plant seedlings as a tribute to the occasion received immediate support from the Astana administration, highlighting the significance of environmental stewardship in the region.
