Attracting Qatari Investment of Nearly $50 Million for New Atyrau Airport Complex

Qatari Investor to Invest $50 Million in New Airport Complex at Atyrau International Airport

ASTANA — A Qatari investor is set to bring in nearly $50 million for the construction of a new airport complex at Atyrau International Airport, named after Khiuaz Dospanova. The announcement was made during a working visit by Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev to the Atyrau Region on Sept. 9.

The construction of the new airport complex is scheduled to commence in 2025, with a focus on completely modernizing and expanding the airport infrastructure, as well as repairing the existing building. The new complex will span 16,500 square meters and will feature three telescopic bridges to enhance passenger access.

Given Atyrau’s strategic location on the Ural River at the crossroads of East and West, the design of the airport complex will incorporate Eastern architectural motifs inspired by the medieval city of Saraishyk on the main facade, while the facade facing the platform will boast a Western style with minimalist design and stained glass elements.

Currently, the airport operates 89 domestic and 21 international flights per week. Once the renovation is completed in 2026, the upgraded facility is expected to increase its passenger capacity from 800,000 to over 2.9 million per year.

At present, the airport offers flights to six destinations including Kutaisi, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Antalya, Sharm el-Sheikh, and Moscow. Plans are in place to introduce new international routes to popular European and Asian destinations in the near future.
