Ceremonies to Mark August 30 Victory Day in TRNC
Various ceremonies will be held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Friday to celebrate August 30 Victory Day.
This day, commemorated as an official and national holiday in the Republic of Turkey and the TRNC to honor the Great Offensive that led to victory under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, will see events taking place across all districts.
The celebrations in the TRNC will kick off with a congratulatory reception hosted by the Republic of Turkey Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, in collaboration with the Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces, Major General Sebahattin Kılınç, at 08:45 at the KTKA Command Casino in Ortaköy.
Following this, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Monument starting at 09:30. The event will include the laying of wreaths in protocol order, a moment of silence, the raising of flags accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem, and the signing of the Memorial Special Book.
A parade will then be held on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard, commencing at 10:00. The ceremony will feature the singing of the national anthem, flag-raising, inspection of ceremonial units, celebrations of the public holiday, a speech by an officer representing the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Command, remarks by President Ersin Tatar, and the official parade.
Furthermore, there will be two separate ceremonies in Famagusta, with one happening at the Victory Monument in Gazimağusa and the other on İsmet İnönü Boulevard. Both events will include wreath-laying, moments of silence, flag-raising, speeches, poetry readings, folk dance performances, music recitals, and ceremonial parades.
Similar ceremonies will also be held in Kyrenia, Güzelyurt, İskele, Lefke, Akdoğan, Geçitkale, and Mehmetçik to mark August 30 Victory Day.
These events serve as a reminder of the historic significance of the Great Offensive and the importance of unity and perseverance in achieving victory.
