Australia Braces for Rare Tropical Cyclone Approaching East Coast
Australia is currently gearing up for a rare tropical cyclone that is moving towards Brisbane, the country’s third-largest city. Authorities are advising residents of flood-prone suburbs to evacuate immediately as the storm approaches.
According to reports from Reuters, storm warnings have been issued along more than 500 km of coastline in the states of Queensland and New South Wales. Destructive wind gusts of up to 155 km/h are expected during the day on Thursday, March 6. Tropical Cyclone “Alfred” is predicted to reach Category 2 status early on March 7 near Brisbane, the capital of Queensland.
The Meteorological Bureau has cautioned that some areas could receive up to 800 mm of rainfall, surpassing March averages and potentially leading to dangerous flash flooding. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has described this event as very rare for southeast Queensland, noting that it has been many decades since this part of the state experienced a cyclone of this magnitude. He is urging residents in flood-prone areas to comply with evacuation orders to ensure their safety.
As preparations continue for the approaching tropical cyclone, residents and authorities are taking necessary precautions to minimize the potential impact of the storm on the affected areas.
