Turkey Continues Fight Against Irregular Migration
The Directorate of Migration Management in Turkey has released information regarding their efforts against irregular migration. According to their social media account, between April 28 and May 4, 2,280 irregular migrants were prevented from entering the country. As of the beginning of the year, this number has reached 77,261.
Across the country, 1534 irregular migrants, including 455 Afghans, 28 Pakistanis, and 1051 from other nationalities, were caught. Of these, 1390, including 340 Afghans, 7 Pakistanis, and 1043 from other nationalities, were found to have entered the country illegally and were deported. Since the beginning of the year, 35,131 irregular migrants have been sent to their countries, including 11,326 Afghans, 1726 Pakistanis, and 22,797 of other nationalities.
Despite these efforts, 16,294 irregular migrants remain in removal centres, including 4,259 Afghans, 1812 Pakistanis, and 10,223 of other nationalities. Additionally, the proceedings of 1593 irregular migrants continue as part of the invitation to leave.
These numbers highlight Turkey’s ongoing efforts to combat irregular migration, which has become a pressing issue not only for Turkey but also for many other countries around the world. This fight against irregular migration is not only important for the security of the countries, but also for the safety and wellbeing of migrants themselves.
