Autism Association Calls for Legal Oversight of Individuals with Special Needs
The Cyprus Autism Association has issued a call to action for authorities to implement necessary legal arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals with special needs in society. The association emphasized the need for control mechanisms to be put into effect and for the state to fulfill its responsibilities in a statement addressing the recent abuse of a 17-year-old mentally disabled individual in Aygün village.
Expressing sadness over the systematic abuse, the association stated that this incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by individuals with special needs in society. They pointed out the inadequacy of existing laws, lack of follow-up, supervision, and absence of state-appointed assistance services in the daily lives of vulnerable individuals.
In their statement, the association vowed to continue their advocacy efforts to prevent such tragic events from reoccurring and to ensure that the rights of all individuals with special needs are protected. They remain committed to addressing the needs of individuals with special needs and advocating for their rights in society.
The Cyprus Autism Association’s dedication to supporting individuals with special needs and preventing abuse is commendable, and they call on the community to join them in their mission to create a safe and inclusive society for all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
