Ayhan Halit Acarkan: Former Parliament Speaker’s Final Journey – BRTK
A ceremony was held in the garden of the Republic Assembly to honor the late Ayhan Halit Acarkan, a former Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic, who recently passed away. The ceremony began with a moment of silence and Acarkan’s son, Erol Acarkan, delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the family after his father’s CV was read.
During his speech, Erol Acarkan reflected on his father’s political career and his deep love for both the people and the country. He emphasized that his father always stressed the importance of educating future generations about the origins of the Turkish Cypriot community.
Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre also spoke at the ceremony, acknowledging Ayhan Halit Acarkan’s many accomplishments throughout his lifetime. He praised Acarkan for being a devoted family man, a role model, and a man dedicated to noble causes. Töre concluded by saying that Acarkan would be remembered with fondness and respect.
President Ersin Tatar expressed his condolences to the family of Acarkan, who was laid to rest at the Karaoğlanoğlu Cemetery following a prayer service at the Kyrenia Nurettin Ersin Pasha Mosque. Tatar noted that Acarkan had moved to Kyrenia from Limassol, where he had served as mayor, and continued to achieve political success in his new community, all while striving to raise honorable children.
Ayhan Halit Acarkan, who passed away at the age of 89, was remembered and honored by colleagues, family, and friends alike for his contributions to the Turkish Cypriot community and his dedication to public service. May he rest in peace.
