Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office summons blogger Orkhan Aghayev for questioning

Azerbaijani Blogger Orkhan Aghayev Summoned for Investigation by Prosecutor General’s Office

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has called upon Orkhan Aghayev, a blogger residing abroad, for investigation, as reported by Ictimai TV. Aghayev, born in 1986, has been instructed to appear at the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office administrative building on April 23, 2025, at 12:00 (GMT+4), with a valid identity document.

The decision to charge Aghayev was made on September 7, 2020, under various articles of the Criminal Code. It is alleged that between April 19, 2019, and August 7, 2019, Aghayev, in collaboration with others, including individuals previously convicted by the court, incited acts of violence through videos posted on YouTube and Facebook. The calls were aimed at the forcible seizure of power, retention of power, change of constitutional structure, mass riots, disobedience to government demands, and violence.

As Aghayev has evaded the investigation and is currently outside Azerbaijan, he was declared wanted on September 7, 2020, and a preventive measure of arrest was issued by the Nasimi District Court of Baku. Aghayev has been warned that failure to respond to the summons may lead to in-absentia proceedings, potentially resulting in a court verdict or other final decision according to the Criminal Procedure Code.

The case highlights the serious nature of the allegations against Aghayev and the legal actions being taken to address the accusations. The investigation will continue as authorities seek to bring Aghayev to justice for the charges brought against him.
