Backing AI Initiatives: Support for Cutting-Edge Technology Projects

Turkey’s Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem Grows with TÜBİTAK Support

The artificial intelligence ecosystem in Turkey is on the rise, with plans to put AI into use in agriculture, education, and projects against climate change. TÜBİTAK, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, is supporting this growth by activating the country’s AI ecosystem to develop products and solutions that meet the needs of customer organizations.

TÜBİTAK’s ‘Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem 2023 Call’ aims to support SMEs and entrepreneurial institutions in the Turkish AI ecosystem and to train human resources researchers in this field. This year, 32 consortia applied to the call with 32 projects, out of which 17 have been accepted, and 2 are still under evaluation. The approved projects are estimated to have a budget of 55 million 428 thousand 299 lira.

The call for project applications was open to 5 thematic areas, including financial technologies. Among the supported projects, 8 were selected from the fields of smart production systems, 3 from the fields of smart agriculture, food, and livestock, 4 from the fields of climate change and sustainability, and 2 from the fields of smart education technologies.

Several universities and public research centers will participate in the supported projects, with Boğaziçi University leading the way with 3 projects. Additionally, there are SME-scale customer and technology provider organizations within the consortiums.

The effort to grow Turkey’s artificial intelligence ecosystem is a significant step towards leveraging AI to address key challenges in various sectors, and it represents a promising opportunity for innovation and growth in the country.
