Baikal-Transit to Construct Logistics Terminal on Mongolia Border

Baikal-Transit LLC to Invest 1.8 Billion Rubles in New Customs and Logistics Terminal

Baikal-Transit LLC, based in Buryatia, has announced plans to invest 1.8 billion rubles in the construction of a customs and logistics terminal near the Naushki border railway station. This new terminal is expected to significantly increase Russia’s trade turnover with Mongolia and China.

The terminal will function as a railway-road terminal, allowing for cargo transshipment between different modes of transportation. The project will be carried out in two stages, with an initial investment of 360 million rubles. The total investment in the project is estimated to be 1.8 billion rubles.

Construction is already underway for the Baikal-Transit customs and logistics terminal for road cargo in Kyakhta, located just 35 km from the village of Naushki. The terminal will feature key infrastructure for the transportation of goods along the Russia-Mongolia and Russia-China transit routes, including a temperature-controlled warehouse and the only refrigerated warehouse in Buryatia. It is expected that this project will help alleviate congestion at the Kyakhta checkpoint by streamlining customs clearance procedures and improving throughput. The terminal is scheduled to be operational later this year.

In addition to the construction of the terminal, the investor also plans to establish a customs post and a phytosanitary service at the site, as well as representative offices of Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor. The project will also include temporary storage warehouses, an oil depot, petroleum product warehouses, a container site, and a customs inspection zone for timber and lumber.

The Naushki station of the East Siberian Railway, which is a branch of Russian Railways, is strategically located 900 km from the Erlian station in China, with the railway passing through the territory of Mongolia.

Last year, representatives from Russia, China, and Mongolia met in Irkutsk and agreed to increase the volume of container traffic through the Naushki-Sukhbaatar border crossing by 25%. Russian Railways has already begun work on the Naushki station, with plans to reconstruct the transshipment complex and extend its receiving and departure tracks. It is anticipated that the annual traffic through the station will reach 15 million tonnes by 2025 and 20 million tonnes by 2030. These improvements are expected to further facilitate trade and transportation between Russia, Mongolia, and China.
