Ban on Strip Bars in Budapest’s Downtown District

Budapest Mayor Bans Operation of Strip Bars to Combat Crimes
Péter Niedermüller, the Democratic Coalition mayor of Budapest’s 7th district, Elizabethtown (Erzsébetváros), has announced that he will ban the operation of strip bars in the area. The mayor believes that these establishments provide space for crimes such as abuse and exploitation to take place.
In a Facebook post, MR Niedermüller shared that the local council has made the decision to prohibit all bars, gentlemen’s clubs, and similar establishments that offer live erotic entertainment services. While the relevant laws give power to the general assembly of condominiums to ban such activities, the mayor feels that more action is necessary.
To allow for a transition period, the local council has decided to give strip bars and other venues until May to make a choice. After this deadline, establishments will only be allowed to remain open after midnight if they do not offer live erotic entertainment services or shows. It will be up to the owners to decide whether to comply with the new regulation or cease such services altogether.
The new regulation is set to come into effect on 31 May. This move is aimed at protecting the community and preventing crimes associated with these types of establishments.
It remains to be seen how strip bars in the 7th district of Budapest will respond to this ban and whether similar measures will be implemented in other areas of the city.
By taking this decisive action, Mayor Niedermüller hopes to create a safer and more respectful environment for the residents of Budapest.
