The Cyprus Turkish Bar Association Celebrates Press Day
The Cyprus Turkish Bar Association recently celebrated Press Day by honoring the hard work and dedication of press workers. In a message released on July 11, the Association highlighted the importance of press freedom in fostering democracy and building a strong society.
The message emphasized that freedom of the press is a fundamental human right that should not be censored. It also condemned the recent arbitrary arrests and imprisonment of journalists, noting that such actions undermine democratic values. The Association called for the protection and support of journalists who work ethically and responsibly to inform the public.
Furthermore, the Cyprus Turkish Bar Association expressed solidarity with press workers and stressed the need for them to have the freedom to practice their profession without fear or restrictions. The message also commemorated the historic significance of Press Day, which marks the anniversary of the first Turkish newspaper ‘Saded’ published in Cyprus by Turkish Cypriot Ahmet Emin Efendi 135 years ago.
On this special occasion, the Association extended its congratulations to all press workers and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding press freedom and defending the rights of journalists.
