The 16th International Carob and Folk Dances Festival, traditionally organized by Tatlısu Municipality, started with a ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, first a moment of silence was observed and then the national anthem was sung.

Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçan made the first speech at the opening ceremony, which continued with puppets, illusions, interactive shows, fire shows and live sculptures.

Stating that last year they organized the festival with more hope, but this year the price of carob was not announced, Orçan stated that their hopes were broken, and he expressed his belief that both ministers, who are the addressees of the issue, were at the ceremony and that they will solve the problem in question.

Orçan stated that the carob product has gained value in recent times and that carob producers are protecting this product by planting new carob saplings.

Underlining that the producers should be supported by the relevant ministry if the carob price is not at the value it deserves, Orçan completed his speech by talking about the benefits of the carob product.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu stated that they discussed the problems and pricing of carob among themselves and that they continue to work in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, and that they are trying to determine a price that will not victimize anyone.

Minister Ataoğlu said, “Maybe we cannot give a price today, but we hope that the carob producers will be at ease and at least no one will be victimized by the price taken last year, and it may be even higher. The work to be done will be carried out within ourselves, following a statement to be made by the Republic of Turkey on Monday.” “Afterwards, a price that everyone can understand will be announced,” he said.

Minister Ağaoğlu stated that, if necessary, the government will do their part to ensure that the producers are not victimized and supported, and that they will do their best to prevent the producers’ enthusiasm and increase the yield.

Minister Ağaoğlu explained that they are carrying out a project to prevent unplanned construction in the Tatlısu region and to develop tourism in the region, and gave the good news that caravan tourism will be carried out in the Tatlısu region in accordance with international standards.

Minister Ağaoğlu announced that they reached an agreement to establish a molasses factory in the Tatlısu region.
