The President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Officials Union (KTAMS) Güven Bengihan announced that as of July 31, the hunger limit for a family of 4 is 14,867 TL.
Bengihan said in a written statement, according to the report prepared by the Ministry of Health’s Department of Inpatient Treatment Institutions, taking into account the nutritional pattern required for a healthy nutrition of a family of four and the prices of the substances in this pattern sent to the union by the Statistical Institute. He noted that the hunger limit for food was calculated as 14,867 TL.
Bengihan, according to the study of the union, the amount of compulsory food expenditure that an adult woman should make in order to eat healthy is 126.27 months 3788.1 TL per day, 132.94 monthly 3988.2 TL per day for an adult man, 141.69 TL per day for 15-19 years old children and 4250.7 TL for 4-6 months. He stated that it is 94.68 TL per day and 2840.4 TL per month for a child aged 3 years.
Stating that the monthly food expenditure amount for a family of four to have a healthy, balanced and adequate diet is 14,867 TL, Bengihan pointed out that this figure is calculated by taking into account only basic food expenditures.
Bengihan said, “When health, education, transportation, communication, housing, electricity, gas, clothing, etc. expenditures are taken into account, a family of 4 should have an income well above this figure in order to live humanely.”
Bengihan pointed out that according to the official figures of the Statistical Institute, inflation occurred in the country at 9.90 percent in July, adding that the 7-month inflation rate was 46.53 percent and the annual inflation rate was 72.81 percent.
