The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources held an information meeting to evaluate the measures to be taken against blue tongue disease and to raise awareness.

According to the written statement made by the Ministry, the meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş, Undersecretary of the Ministry Ozan Özuyanık, Director of the Veterinary Department Tunç Beyit, relevant department managers, mayors, district governors, representatives of animal producers and breeders, Prof. Dr. Huriye Horoz Kaya and Parasitology Specialist Dr. Zeliha İmamzade attended.

In his speech at the meeting, Sergeant said, “As the Veterinary Department and the Livestock Department, we have worked with all our strength against bluetongue disease to suppress the disease and we continue to work. We are in strong cooperation with local governments in this struggle. “By acting together, we implement the necessary measures in the most effective way.” he said.

Providing information about the symptoms of the disease, ways of transmission and the measures to be taken to prevent its spread, Sergeant said, “The most effective way to combat the disease is pen cleaning and fly control. In this regard, it is of great importance for our producers to keep their hygiene standards high.” he said.

Sergeant also stated that they are leading regional information activities in order to prevent the spread of the disease and said, “In cooperation with the Veterinary Department, we continue to provide the necessary drug support to the relevant municipalities to combat flies. “We are working in coordination with all our stakeholders in this process.” he said.
