The Assembly of the Republic unanimously accepted the High Management Auditor (Ombudsman) budget of 36 million 251 thousand TL.

Before moving on to budget discussions, the General Assembly first included approval and information presentations. At the General Assembly, the motions for the third meeting of the Free Port’s 2025 Budget Bill and the Competition Board’s 2025 Budget Bill were accepted by majority vote.

By the decision of the Council of Ministers, the budget implementation results of the Prime Ministry’s 2023 Fiscal Year Budget between 1 January 2023 and 30 September 2023 were also presented to the Parliament. The withdrawal of the draft decision of the Board of Directors of the Foundations Organization and the Department of Religious Affairs regarding the property of the Turabi Lodge in Larnaca for re-examination was presented to the general assembly.

Following the presentations for approval and information, the High Management Auditor (Ombudsman) budget of 36 million 251 thousand TL was discussed.

CTP deputy Ürün Solyalı, who spoke first on the Ombudsman budget, emphasized that independent auditors should be able to do their duties for good administration.

Soyalı stated that the independent and autonomous structure of the Ombudsman should be strengthened, its institutional and physical structure should be improved, and the number of auditors should be increased, and argued that the promises made in this regard were not fulfilled.

“There is no good administration in the country, and there is a weakness in the supervision of poor administration,” said Solyalı, adding: “These independent institutions are important to us. “In this period of corruption, reporting and bad experiences, it is important that inspections are carried out without delay,” he said.

Solyalı said that there are serious human rights violations in the country and the Ombudsman cannot take the necessary action due to the lack of legal infrastructure.

Noting that it is also important for the Ombudsman’s report results to be effective, Solyalı stated that this committee was not run in the Parliament and said, “We will see in the coming days whether the promises made will be kept.”

Reminding that the Ombudsman budget was passed unanimously in the committee, Solyalı said, “It should be the responsibility of the parliament to provide the necessary support to the Ombudsman, who will be effective in all areas and have sanction power.”

After the discussions, the Ombudman budget was accepted unanimously.
