President Ersin Tatar attended the 7th Turkish Cypriot Culture Festival organized by the Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations in London.

President Tatar opened the festival, which he attended with his wife Sibel Tatar, and made a speech.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture Fikri Ataoğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in London Osman Koray Ertaş, TRNC’s Representative in London Çimen Keskin, President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Turgay Deniz, Turkish Cypriot and Turkish community representatives, attended the festival in the Enfield region. Former members of the UK Parliament and other officials attended.

Kenan Nafi, Chairman of the Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations in England, thanked everyone who attended and supported the festival in his opening speech. Nafi remembered those who contributed to the festival reaching its current state.
Nafi noted that they will carry the flag they inherited from the past to the best point and pass it on to young people at the festival organized with the aim of transferring the Turkish Cypriot culture to future generations in England.

Stating that young people are the future and that they attach great importance to young people for this purpose, Nafi said that the festival means unity, happiness, sharing and culture.

Duncan Smith, a former member of the UK Parliament, said he was happy to attend the festival and that he fought for the rights of the Turkish Cypriot community, and that he gave great support, especially for direct flights to the TRNC. Smith wished everyone attending the festival a pleasant time with their families.

TRNC London Representative Çimen Keskin also drew attention to the importance of the festival, which was realised with devoted efforts and support, in terms of keeping the Turkish Cypriot culture alive.

Keskin said that the Turkish Cypriot community, which dates back a hundred years and has reached its fourth generation in England, has been successful in every field and that this is a source of pride.

Stating that the festival allows the Turkish Cypriot culture to be kept alive and carried into the future, Keskin congratulated the council and wished for its continuation in unity and solidarity.

Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to London Osman Koray Ertaş also thanked President Tatar for his participation in the festival on behalf of the large Turkish community in London.

Stating that the festival is important for the Turkish Cypriot community to say “we are here too”, Ertaş said that a great effort was made in organizing the festival and that it is important for transferring the culture and language to new generations and the future.

Ertaş also emphasized unity and solidarity and noted that the TRNC and Turkish diaspora will rise in England.

Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu also thanked everyone who attended the festival and supported unity and solidarity.

Ataoğlu pointed out the importance of passing on culture to future generations, and stated that it is their duty to tell the future generations, who have reached their fourth generation in England, about the past and to walk towards the future with confident steps.

Pointing out the importance of young people and emphasizing the importance of families passing on past experiences to younger generations, Ataoğlu stated that they, as the ministry, will continue to support these efforts.

Ataoğlu said that despite the embargoes, they are working to ensure that the country develops and that citizens living abroad do not lose their land, culture and language.

Explaining the importance they give to young people and new generations and emphasizing unity, Ataoğlu also expressed support for the Turkish Cypriots who are candidates in the elections in England.

Ataoğlu also explained the steps taken and the work done to facilitate access to the country, and stated that they will continue to work for the development of the country and the breaking of embargoes.

In his speech at the festival, President Ersin Tatar conveyed the love, respect and greetings of the TRNC people to the citizens in England.

Tatar congratulated everyone who contributed to the organization of the festival and emphasized the importance of cooperation and unity.

Recalling the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people for their existence in England for years, Tatar congratulated the Turkish Cypriots who were successful in every field today.

Tatar thanked the schools and families that cooperated to transfer the culture, language, customs and traditions to the next generations, and thanked everyone who did not break the bonds of love, culture and national values.
Stating that he also met with citizens in Australia, Tatar noted that he went to Australia not as a tourist but as the president, and that he kept the culture of more than a hundred thousand citizens alive there.
Stating that Turkish Cypriots have developed in every field and wherever they live with the support of Turkey and that they protect the TRNC, Tatar emphasized that the state connects the Turkish Cypriot people to each other.
Stating that they are in a great struggle to keep the state alive and develop it, Tatar said that they are struggling to ensure unity with the international community in every field, to tell the truth and for the existence of the people.

Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriot people have inherent sovereign rights, Tatar emphasized that the foundations of the state were laid with the peace operation after the Greek Cypriot attacks and that the Turkish Cypriot people have a noble history.
Tatar thanked everyone who attended and supported the festival and also touched upon the issue of direct flights from England to TRNC.
Stating that direct flights are important not only for the Turkish Cypriot people but also for the British living in the TRNC, Tatar noted that embargoes are unacceptable.

Tatar stated that they explained this injustice to the international community with the support of the Republic of Turkey and that they will continue to work to achieve a solution on the basis of equality, sovereignty and statehood in Cyprus.
Tatar also explained the injustice done to the Turkish Cypriot people and noted that this should be stopped and the Cyprus problem should be reconsidered.

Tatar wished success to the candidates in the election and emphasized the importance of electing those who are the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people in parliament.

Following the speeches, a video prepared by the Presidency was shown, covering the Turkish Cypriot people’s national struggle period, negotiation processes and the developments following the recent two-state solution policy.
