Today, on the 49th anniversary of the Muratağa, Sandallar and Atlılar massacre, which burned the hearts of the Turkish Cypriot community and left unforgettable and deep wounds in our collective memory, the brutal attacks of the EOKA terrorist organization against our civilian population, from 16-day-old babies to 95-year-olds, and the bitter face of the war once again deepened. We remember with sadness.
What happened on the night of August 14, 1974 was an inhuman atrocity. The Turkish Cypriot people will never forget this dark day when 126 innocent and defenseless people were killed.
It should not be forgotten that; The Cyprus Peace Operation has both ensured the establishment of peace on the island and changed the fate of the Turkish Cypriots. In the second phase of the Peace Operation, which is a historical step and a true military success story, Turkish Cypriots have gained complete freedom and security. If the Second Peace Operation had not been carried out, the landing operation carried out on 20 July would have been unfinished. If the second Peace Operation had not taken place, Cyprus would have been a Greek island. Thanks to the Second Peace Operation, Serdarlı, Famagusta and Lefke have gained their freedom and the current state borders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have been drawn.
We are working and will continue to work to leave a safe future for future generations. We know that our state, which is the sign of our sovereignty and freedom, is a trust from our martyrs. It is our duty to carry this relic to the future. It is essential for us to keep our state alive and to move our relations with the Motherland Turkey further every day. With these feelings and thoughts, I congratulate Serdarlı, Famagusta and Lefke, who gained their freedom with the second phase of the Peace Operation, and I commemorate with mercy all our martyrs who lost their lives on the path of freedom of the Turkish Cypriot people, especially Taşkent, Sandallar, Muratağa and Atlılar.
