As part of the celebrations of the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, a “Republic Cortege” was held in the capital Nicosia.

In addition to Nicosia regional schools, President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, TR Nicosia Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim, Security Forces Commander Major General İlker Görgülü, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek and other officials attended the march organized by the Ministry of National Education.

The cortege carrying Turkish, TRNC and Ataturk flags was applauded by citizens along the route. The cortege started from the pronto circle and completed in front of Dereboyu Avenue, accompanied by the military band.

At the event where President Tatar and Minister of National Education Çavuşoğlu gave speeches, the Security Forces Command Band gave a concert, and the Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality team presented a folk dance show.

–Tatar: “July 20, 1974 is a turning point”

In his speech, President Ersin Tatar commemorated the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms with mercy and gratitude on the 101st anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. Tatar emphasized that the Republic of Türkiye gained its independence, freedom and liberty with the proclamation of the Republic 101 years ago.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people continue their struggle for independence in Cyprus with the love of the Republic, with the inspiration they received from the motherland Turkey, with the torch lit by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Tatar touched upon the struggle against the Greek-Greek duo during the British Colonial Administration, on 15 November 1983. He noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was established in 2015.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people took their place as equal founding partners in the 1960 Establishment Agreements during the period of former Turkish Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, Tatar underlined that the justified intervention of the Turkish Armed Forces on July 20, 1974 was a turning point in Cyprus.

Stating that they continue to fight for the welfare, survival and future of their people in cooperation with the motherland Turkey and the TRNC, Tatar stated that the Turkish soldiers are making an extraordinary effort and effort to protect the security of the Republic of Turkey in the Southeastern region. Noting that the borders of the TRNC are protected for the peace and security of the people, President Tatar reiterated that if there is to be an agreement in Cyprus, it will be possible on the basis of sovereignty, with the guarantorship of the Republic of Turkey and the continued presence of the Turkish military.

Stating that the Republic of Türkiye and the TRNC are fighting hand in hand, Tatar expressed his gratitude to the Turkish nation. Tatar said, “Happy 29 October Republic Day to all of us.”

Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu started his speech by saying, “Today is the 101st anniversary of our Republic, happy birthday to all of us.”

Stating that the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk entrusted the Republic, which he called his greatest work, to the youth, Çavuşoğlu said, “We have been blessed to strengthen the foundations of the Republic.”

Referring to Atatürk’s words, “Teachers, the new generations will be your work,” Minister Çavuşoğlu said, “It is our teachers who will glorify the state, bring it to light, and carry our people to the future.”

Minister Çavuşoğlu said that they continue to work day and night together with the teachers to strengthen the foundations of the Republic, carry it into the future and keep it alive.

Çavuşoğlu said, “We will continue to work in laboratories, not in cafes, to bring our country to light,” and stated that the future of the Turkish nation will be brighter with this determination, and emphasized, “This brightness will definitely take us to the level of contemporary civilizations.”

Expressing his respect and gratitude to the martyrs and veterans who entrusted the Republic, Minister Çavuşoğlu wished those who are dead to rest in peace and wished health and well-being to those who are alive.
