The 51st anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation was celebrated with the program organized in cooperation with the Consulate General of Trabzon, Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) and TRTC Trabzon.

The program titled “Cyprus Peace Operation: Those who crowned the struggle with victory”, KTU Prof.Dr. Dr. Osman Turan Culture and Congress Center was held in Fahri Kuran Hall.

According to the information given to the program, Trabzon Governor Aziz Yildirim, Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Yuksel Gulay, KTU Rector. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, Rector of Trabzon University. Dr. Emin Aşıkkutlu, Trabzon Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Bahittin Murat Yakın, TRNC Consul General of Trabzon Fatma Demirel, Eurasia University Rector Assistant Professor. Dr. Yavuz Özoran, Cyprus veterans, representatives of public institutions and guests attended.

The program started with the reading of the silence and the reading of the National Anthem. Then, the “Cyprus Peace Operation 51. Special” visual presentation and “Independence in the Nickname” KTU TV video screening was performed by the Presidency of the Republic of the Republic of Turkey.

Following the protocol speeches at the event, Seyyah Sağıroğlu, Chairman of the Cyprus Veterans and Trabzon Battle Veterans Association Trabzon Branch, made a speech titled “Witnesses in History: I was there”.

Sağıroğlu, in 1973 in Manisa 8th Infantry Regiment began to work, when he was located here for the selection of soldiers for the special warfare and voluntarily demanded to participate in the Cyprus Peace Operation, he said.

After becoming a volunteer, Sağıroğlu said that he had passed a three -month intensive education in İskenderun and started to work in Cyprus on 24 February and shared his memories of the critical moments of the operation with the participants.

In his speech, Özdemir drew attention to the historical importance of the operation of the Cyprus Peace Operation, taking into account both the strategic and humanitarian aspects.

Within the scope of the interview, the short documentary series of Özdemir, directed by BRT producer, was brought together with the participants. In the screening, the documentary about the memories of Paraşütçü Ali Rami Gümüşoğlu, who described the struggle against the British in 1958 and included the witnesses of Mujahideen Metin Aybars, and the memories of Paraşütçü Ali Rami Gümüşoğlu, who served in the peace operation process.
