The General Assembly of the Republic Assembly is discussing the Presidential 2025 budget in the amount of 619 million 500 thousand TL.

CTP Deputy Fikri Toros had the first say on the presidential budget.

Toros wished that the 2025 Fiscal Year Budget Law would be beneficial to the country and hoped that the local revenues of the budget would cover the expenses.

Stating that he wanted to express his views on the UN initiative and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Toros touched upon the Cyprus issue, which is in its 61st year.

Stating that the will of the Turkish Cypriots in the Annan Plan was turned away, Toros stated that the Turkish Cypriots were removed from being subjects and were deprived of all their rights.

Stating that the failure to resolve the Cyprus problem has turned into a complex problem, Toros noted that the Turkish side held consistent and sincere negotiations between 2013 and 2017, but could not reach a conclusion.

Expressing that it is vital that the new process be structured in a way that does not allow failure, Toros stated that the parties should move away from their irreconcilable attitudes.

Toros said that Ersin Tatar, the President and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, did not hold consultations and diplomatic contacts.

Pointing out that energy security in the Eastern Mediterranean plays a critical role in the solution of the Cyprus problem, Toros explained the importance of the developments around the island of Cyprus.

Pointing out the importance of the guarantor countries in the solution to the Cyprus problem, Toros stated that the military and strategic initiatives of America and England make the solution to the Cyprus problem difficult.

Fikri Toros stated that the territorial integrity of Cyprus and the Cypriot identity should be protected, not discussed, and that Turkish Cypriots are considered as non-existent everywhere, and that a fair and permanent federal solution in Cyprus should not be turned away.

Stating that the Presidential Symphony Orchestra gained legal status and gained a proud status, Toros stated that the orchestra has been formed from the country’s artists since 2019.

Noting that it is currently impossible for the orchestra to give regular concerts and maintain their sustainability, Toros called on the President to correct this issue.

CTP President Tufan Erhürman, who took the second floor, evaluated what duties fall on the Presidency and the community leadership position and to what extent their duties were fulfilled.

Stating that the President intervened in domestic issues, Erhürman noted that the Presidency should act within the principle of impartiality, but the President never adopted this and did not hesitate to make statements targeting the opposition.

Referring to the President’s statements to the press, Erhürman stated that although the concept of “Cypriot” is included in the Constitution, the President has a problem with this concept.

Erhürman argued that the President constantly adopts discriminatory tasks and noted that the President is the person who is most disturbed about freedom of thought.

Referring to the Ali Kişmir case, Erhürman stated that an atmosphere of pressure was created on everyone and that the Presidency should be the first to stand against this atmosphere of pressure, and noted that there was no voice from the Presidency regarding this case.

Arguing that the President “seems to be very confused”, Erhürman stated that the President should work intensively to bring the Turkish Cypriot people into contact with the world.

Erhürman said that the President has become isolated in the palace and has also isolated the Turkish Cypriot people.

Emphasizing that every window opened to the Turkish Cypriot people is important, Erhürman stated that relations with the EU went backwards during this period, and the message was given that “even the unofficial UN dinner was attended without being asked”.

Tufan Erhürman stated that he thought that the President was not very demanding about the gates, and noted that they were going backwards at every point and it was obvious that the costs were made to the society.

Expressing that the lack of a solution to the Cyprus problem is an indication that the security of property and life is in danger, Erhürman stated that the lack of a solution to the Cyprus problem has reached a point where it brings with it the risk of peacelessness.

Erhürman stated that 4 years have been lost both in the domestic and international relations and in the solution of the Cyprus problem, and stated that the Cyprus problem is far behind where it started and that no benefit has been gained from the Presidency.

Expressing that what was lost in the Presidential budget cannot be replaced, Erhürman noted that what has been done for the Turkish Cypriot people cannot be replaced.

CTP Deputy Sami Özuslu said in his speech that 2025 will be the year of liberation from both the President and the government.

Stating that all institutions will be protected, Özuslu noted that the country was made uninhabitable within 4-5 years.

Pointing out that a journalist was being tried in court, Özuslu stated that he did not want to say anything that would affect the judicial process and criticized the fact that the Military Crimes and Punishments (Amendment) Law Proposal, which they submitted on October 3, 2023, was not discussed despite the urgency.

Özuslu said, “Ali Kişmir is never alone,” and noted that this urgent law should be put on the agenda immediately and to ensure that the society is not further stressed by this case.

Sami Özuslu pointed out that other journalists had faced prison sentences before and explained the lawsuits filed and the processes experienced regarding the articles written by journalists with examples.

Özuslu stated that considering the country’s infrastructure needs such as schools, roads and health, the investment in “complexes” that do not fit the architecture and size of the country should be abandoned at an early time, and suggested that schools be built with the resources transferred to these places.

Özuslu asked whether the buildings could be turned into a hospital or a school, and stated that this investment should be used for other needs, and called for this issue to be discussed with the authorities of the Republic of Turkey.

Pointing to the increase in the Presidential budget, Özuslu asked how sufficient the education and health budgets with lower increases would be.

Pointing out that there was a 197 percent increase in the Presidential budget, Özuslu said, “This is the social complex effect.” he said.

Explaining the increase in the expenses of the “complex” built for the Presidency with figures, Özuslu noted that it should be realized how many schools or hospitals can be built with these increases.

Stating that the society has been “leaderless” for 4 years, Özuslu stated that the “trolling” by the President’s team should be abandoned.

Regarding the contacts made by the President, Özuslu asked who the President met with during his last contacts in Brussels and said, “There was a meeting from Turk to Turk.”

Touching on the “Republic of Cyprus citizenship problem of children born from mixed marriages”, Özuslu said that the President did not say a single sentence on this issue, which affects many people, and that he did not hear him support non-governmental organizations.

Stating that the attitude of Greek Cypriots towards those born from mixed marriages is a “human rights violation”, Özuslu also criticized the President’s statements that he does not recognize the concept of “Cypriotness” and said, “For me, being a Turkish Cypriot is not something to be ashamed of, but something to be proud of.”

Taking the floor later, UBP Deputy Zorlu Töre said that the Cyprus issue is an issue for Turkey as well as for Turkish Cypriots.

Stating that the Cyprus issue cannot be addressed without Turkey, Töre gave information about the history of Cyprus.
