Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and a delegation of commission members came to TRNC at 18.00.

The delegation was welcomed at Ercan Airport by Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia Metin Feyzioğlu, Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz, and Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu.

In his statement to the press before leaving the airport, Oktay stated that during the meetings they will hold in TRNC, they will discuss various issues, including the developments in the United Nations, and discuss how to further the relations between the two parliaments.

Referring to the new airport, Oktay said that, as the Republic of Turkey, they are working hard to complete the airport as soon as possible, and that the main goal is the new opportunities that will be created with the new airport.

Explaining that some security problems and deficiencies in the old airport and some problems related to flights were used as excuses for some developments related to tourism, Oktay said, “We hope that we will see the positive reflections of the new airport on tourism with its infrastructure and superstructure.”

Oktay stated that the Cyprus issue is definitely on their agenda in every foreign contact they make as the Foreign Relations Commission, and said that they are working for the recognition of the TRNC and the removal of embargoes that even restrict the right to travel, and for the TRNC to take its place among other nations as a sovereign and equal state.

Oktay said, “We have constantly brought this issue to the agenda and will continue to do so. We will go to the end. “There is no turning back from this now,” he said.

The delegation, which will hold a meeting at the Law, Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee of the Assembly of the Republic, will be received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu on Friday, September 29. The delegation will also visit Closed Maraş. The delegation will leave TRNC on Friday evening.
