While the number of defense projects was 62 in 2002, today this number has increased to 1132 with an 80 percent localization rate and its size has exceeded 100 billion dollars. The turnover of the sector increased from 1.1 billion dollars in 2002 to 15.5 billion dollars in 2023; Employment reached 92 thousand people. While the annual budget allocated to R&D in the defense industry in 2002 was only 49 million dollars, today it has exceeded 2 billion 622 million dollars annually. Defense and aerospace exports, which were 248 million dollars in 2002, reached 5.5 billion dollars in 2023, according to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly. It amounted to 5.1 billion dollars in the 10-month period of 2024. Türkiye has succeeded in rising to the 11th place in the world in defense exports. Turkish defense products are exported to 185 countries, and the product variety reaches 230.”

Security consultations are carried out within the scope of NATO missions and the Organization of Turkish States. “In 2024, first contacts were established with the National Security Council secretaries/National Security advisors of Tajikistan, Iraq, Malaysia, Hungary and Oman and memorandums of understanding were signed.” he said.
