The Environmental Protection Agency Increases Inspections in Turtle Nesting Areas
In a recent announcement by the Environmental Protection Department under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, it has been revealed that there will be increased inspections in special environmental protection areas and on beaches where turtles lay their eggs.
The statement highlights the importance of protecting the Caretta Caretta turtles and their nesting grounds. It also warns that penalties will be enforced against individuals who engage in activities that may hinder the turtles from laying their eggs.
One key reminder in the statement is that temporary structures such as caravans and tents are only permitted on the beaches between 08:00 and 20:00. Since turtles lay their eggs in the dark, it is strictly prohibited for people and equipment to be present on the beaches after 20:00.
Furthermore, the statement emphasizes that deliberate harm to wild animals under protection, including their habitats, can result in penalties of up to twice the monthly minimum wage. It also encourages the public to report any violations to the Environmental Protection Department’s “Alo 123” hotline.
