Beijing to Host Teqball World Series Tournament with Largest Prize Money Event
This weekend, Beijing will be the center of the Teqball world as it hosts the next tournament of the Teqball World Series. Known as the largest prize money event of the year, this tournament will showcase the growing popularity of the sport, which was developed in Hungary just a decade ago by Gábor Borsányi, Viktor Huszár, and György Gattyán.
Teqball has rapidly gained millions of followers globally and the tournament in Beijing is a testament to its expanding reach beyond Europe to the Far East. In fact, the world’s first Teqball Research Center was recently opened in Beijing, symbolizing the sport’s growth and potential in the region.
Béla Müller, the Head of Communications at FITEQ (International Teqball Federation), highlighted the sport’s evolution, noting the increasing number of host cities and participants. He mentioned that while teqball was initially European-centric, the focus is now shifting to the Far East, with events like the one in Beijing paving the way for more tournaments in the region.
The tournament in Beijing follows the success of a record-breaking World Championship in Bangkok and sets the stage for another championship in Vietnam later this year. Featuring competitions in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles, the event will take place against the backdrop of the iconic Olympic Park.
In conjunction with the tournament, the International Teqball Research Center was inaugurated at the Budapest University of Physical Education and Sport. This partnership aims to foster scientific approaches to analyzing and advancing the sport, further solidifying its Hungarian roots while promoting international collaboration.
The opening of the research center in Beijing was deemed crucial by Gábor Borsányi, emphasizing China’s role as a vital center for the Teqball family. László Vajda, Secretary General of the association, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of international partnerships in developing and promoting the sport.
With Teqball gaining momentum across the globe, the tournament in Beijing marks a significant step towards solidifying the sport’s presence in the Far East and beyond. As fans eagerly anticipate the competition, the event is poised to showcase the skills and talent of Teqball athletes on an international stage.
