Belgium to be Guest of Honor at Kecskemét Animated Film Festival

The 16th Kecskemét Animated Film Festival (KAFF) is set to kick off this Wednesday, with Belgium as the guest of honor. However, the festival will also showcase the best of contemporary Chinese, Argentinian, and German animation, according to the organizers.

Belgium, as the guest of honor, will present the program of this year’s KAFF in three thematic sections. On Thursday, the block entitled Love Stories and Other Disasters will be showcased, followed by Tragic Tales and Other Comedies on Friday, and Fatal Beauty on Saturday at the Hírös Agóra theater in Kecskemét.

In addition to Belgium, the festival will feature a selection of the best of contemporary Chinese animation at the Malom cinema on Thursday. This selection will mainly focus on the work of young Chinese animation filmmakers. On Friday, the Hírös Agora will screen children’s films from the Stuttgart International Animation Festival. Saturday will see the screening of films from the ANIMA – Córdoba International Animation Festival in Argentina at the Mill Cinema. This festival specifically highlights the artistic and technological dimensions of animation.

Moreover, two batches from last year’s Annecy festival will also be screened at the Agora on Saturday. The festival will also feature eight feature-length films in competition, including “Little Nicolas – It’s time for happiness!” which brings to life the title character of the well-known French children’s book series. Films such as “Dogs and Italians are forbidden!” and “The Four Souls of Coyote” will also be screened.

Apart from the film screenings, the festival will also offer a rich book offer. “Cat and Mouse Games” by Zoltán Varga and “Father’s Book” by István Orosz, which is based on the memoirs of his father, will be presented at the Katona József Library. The biography “Emeric Pressburger, The Life and Death of a Screenwriter” and the book “Speaking in Bubbles – 150 years of Hungarian comics” will also be on display.

In addition to the films and books, the festival will include a musical program featuring folk music and jazz concerts, as well as several exhibitions. A new addition to this year’s festival is the KAFFFER fair, where talented students from art universities will showcase their handmade goods.

The Kecskemét Animated Film Festival promises to be a diverse and exciting event, bringing together a variety of international animation films, books, music, and art.
