Bellapais Begonvil Inner Wheel Club Hosts “Poetry, Music, and Women” Event for Women’s Day

Bellapais Begonvil Inner Wheel Club recently organized a special event titled “Poetry, Music, and Women” on March 8th, International Working Women’s Day. The event, sponsored by Pia Bella Hotel in Kyrenia, was a celebration of women through poetry and music.

The President of Bellapais Begonvil IWK, Eser Özyalçın, gave a brief history of Women’s Day in his opening speech. Sibel Tatar, the wife of the President, also spoke at the event. The audience enjoyed a poetry concert accompanied by piano, presented by literary teacher Yonca Oguz and Music Teacher Süley Özden.

The event also featured performances honoring important female figures from Cyprus, including Martyr Süleyman Uluçamgil and poets like Emine Otan and Urkiye Mine Balman. Dr. Nazife Aydınoğlu sang Maya Angelou’s famous poem “Phenomenal Woman,” while other speakers, such as retired teacher Tuncay Çağatay and Ambassador Hasibe Şahoğlu, shared their favorite poems in honor of the day.

The highlight of the event was the performance by the Begonvil Multi Voice Women’s Choir, the club’s newly established choir. Under the direction of Chef İlhan Akyunak and pianist Giray Akyunak, the choir delivered a memorable performance, marking their first public appearance.

The event concluded with a lyrical dance performance by Sunay Baykal, leaving the audience inspired and uplifted by the celebration of women through poetry and music.
