Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova Commemorates 66th Anniversary of 27-28 January 1958 Resistance
On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the 27-28 January 1958 Resistance, Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova released a statement honoring the historical event that marked the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people.
In the statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, Berova emphasized the significance of the Resistance as a pivotal moment in the history of the Turkish Cypriot people’s fight for their rights.
“The Resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people on 27-28 January 1958 was the first major social resistance against the British colonial rule. This resistance has demonstrated that the Turkish Cypriot people are strong enough to oppose Enosis and seek rights, and that they can organize and fight in the struggle for freedom, independence, and sovereignty,” said Berova in his message.
He also paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Resistance, stating, “On the 66th anniversary of the 27-28 January 1958 Resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people, who rose with their chests as a shield against the British Colonial Administration, I remember with mercy and gratitude our martyrs who made the land their homeland and reached the level of martyrdom, and I salute our honorable resistance.”
