Beşiktaş Mayor Akpolat Arrested
Authorities in Istanbul have completed the procedures for 40 suspects allegedly involved in a criminal organization accused of organizing tenders through bribery. The suspects, including Rıza Akpolat, Beşiktaş Deputy Mayor Alican Abacı, and others, were taken to the criminal judgeship after giving statements to the prosecutor’s office. 23 of them, including the alleged leader Aziz İhsan Aktaş, were arrested, while 8 suspects were released under judicial control measures. Additional suspects were also placed under judicial control as requested by the prosecutor’s office. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to crack down on corruption within municipalities.
