The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Turkey has recently updated its list of products that pose a threat to human health due to imitation and adulteration in food. Among the items identified in the list are pide inner mortar poultry and offal, fresh white cheese and cheddar cheese with low fat content, as well as butter made with vegetable oil, olive oil, and seed oil. One of the most concerning findings on the list was the presence of mixed fruit-flavored plant mixed drinks.
According to Food Supervisory Specialist Nurten Sirma, there are numerous deceptive practices in the food sector, especially in restaurants where products like pide inner mortar, lahmacun mortar, and kebab mixed products are often tampered with or replaced with unknown substances.
Consumers are urged to be cautious when consuming pita-type products and to be aware of the potential health risks associated with offal, stony, and poultry meat. Sirma emphasized the importance of inspecting the legitimacy of meat products and restaurants and advised consumers to pay attention to the licenses displayed by establishments to ensure they are safe and regulated environments.
In addition to concerns about meat products, recent inspections by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have revealed the presence of drug active ingredients in certain plant mixed beverages. These substances, such as tadalafil and sibutramine, are typically used in pharmaceuticals and may have harmful side effects if consumed unknowingly.
Consumers are warned to avoid products with unidentified ingredients or unclear origins, as these pose a significant risk to their health. The Ministry has set up a WhatsApp notification line for reporting suspicious food items, allowing individuals to alert authorities and prevent potential health hazards.
