The recent prevention of a possible assassination attempt on Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump has caused shockwaves throughout the nation. Following the incident, US President Joe Biden reached out to Trump in a phone call to express his relief that Trump was unharmed. The White House confirmed that the conversation was cordial, with Trump thanking Biden for his concern. Trump later issued a statement through his campaign team, describing the phone call as pleasant and emphasizing the importance of the Secret Service’s protection.
New details have surfaced regarding the suspected assassination attempt, revealing that the trip to the golf course where the incident occurred was not originally on Trump’s schedule. Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe commended the agents for their swift actions in apprehending the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, who was found with a rifle near the bushes on the course. Fortunately, the suspect did not fire at the Secret Service agents before fleeing the scene.
The FBI Miami Office has since taken over the investigation, seizing the suspect’s belongings including cell phones, vehicle, and electronic devices. Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Veltri stated that they are conducting interviews with witnesses, family members, and former colleagues of Routh to gather more information about the incident.
Meanwhile, US Attorney Markenzy Lapointe emphasized that the federal investigation is still in its early stages and that their priority is to ensure that those responsible for the attempted assassination are brought to justice. Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., confirmed that an AK-47 type weapon was found near the course, leading to the apprehension of the suspect.
