BIDF 2025: Premiering Soon at the Nation’s Top Film Festival
The Budapest International Documentary Festival (BIDF) is set to take place between January 25th and February 2nd, 2025, featuring the latest and most award-winning documentaries from recent years, including potential Oscar contenders. Audiences in Budapest, Békéscsaba, Debrecen, Eger, Győr, Jászberény, Kecskemét, Pécs, Szeged, Székesfehérvár, Szombathely, and Veszprém will have the opportunity to attend screenings and meet the creators or experts of the films’ themes in each city.
This year’s festival motto, “There lies a film within you too,” emphasizes that everyone is the hero of their own life, and everyday stories inspire documentary filmmakers worldwide. With 60 films and 200 screenings nationwide, an international jury of 30 people, including notable individuals such as Alexandra Borbély, Zsuzsa Koncz, Lajos Nagy Parti, Ferenc Sebő, and Bálint Szimler, will judge six sections. Additionally, student and pensioner juries, along with the audience themselves, will award ten festival prizes to the showcased creations.
In a thoughtful move, parents of young children and individuals with special educational needs will also be catered to at the festival. While they enjoy the cultural experience, their children will be looked after by young professionals at the Cinema City Mammut movie theatre in Budapest.
A unique feature of this year’s BIDF is the introduction of a national audience award, which will be determined through online voting for the first time. This innovation aims to involve the public in recognizing and celebrating outstanding documentary films.
