Billionaire’s Luxury Yacht Submerged, Two Bodies Found
Progress in the search for the missing six people, including British tech billionaire Mike Lynch and his daughter, continues for the third day after the luxury yacht Bayesian sank off the Porticello port in Palermo, Italy. Salvatore Cocina, the head of the Sicily Civil Protection Agency, confirmed that two more bodies were found on the yacht at a depth of 49 meters. The identities of the bodies have not yet been disclosed.
The tragic incident occurred when a 56-meter luxury yacht owned by Angela Bacares, the wife of British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch, with 22 people on board, including 10 crew members, sank during a severe storm off the coast of Sicily. Fifteen people, including a child and Angela Bacares, were rescued, while seven people, including Lynch and his daughter, remain missing.
One of the seven missing people was found lifeless, leaving six still unaccounted for. The search efforts are ongoing for British billionaire Lynch, his daughter Hannah, British Jonathan Bloomer, President of Morgan Stanley International, his wife Judy Bloomer, American lawyer Chris Morvillo, partner of Clifford Chance law firm, and his wife Neda Morvillo.
Questions and suspicions surrounding the sinking of the yacht have led to conspiracy theories. Matthew Schanck, chairman of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, expressed concerns about the unprecedented nature of the incident, as a yacht of that size should not have capsized in such weather conditions. The yacht, which Lynch rented for a substantial amount, had a 75-meter mast, potentially contributing to its rapid sinking. Former crew member Monica Jensen noted the yacht’s history of enduring rough seas and bad weather, making the sinking even more perplexing.
