Black Sea Natural Gas Production Surpasses 6 Million Cubic Meters

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar recently addressed important issues regarding the energy and natural gas infrastructure in Osmaniye during a Consultation Meeting held at the Osmaniye Provincial Special Administration. Osmaniye, one of the provinces affected by the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, is now focusing on healing disaster-related wounds and returning to normalcy.

Minister Bayraktar highlighted the significant growth in the number of subscribers in Osmaniye since 2002, with a doubling of subscribers and a quadrupling of electricity consumption. This increase reflects the city’s growing economy and the strengthening of its infrastructure. He also emphasized the efforts to enhance natural gas production and reduce dependency on imports, leading to a more secure energy supply.

Moreover, Minister Bayraktar announced the successful production of natural gas from the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea, providing for 2.6 million homes in Turkey. Plans are underway to increase production to 20 million cubic meters by 2026, with the aim of meeting the needs of 20 million households in Turkey.

In addition to natural gas exploration, Turkey is making strides in oil production, aiming to reach 200 thousand barrels per day by 2025. The recent oil discovery in Şırnak Gabar has already resulted in daily production of 47 thousand barrels. Further efforts are being made to explore and extract oil from various regions across the country.

Furthermore, Minister Bayraktar emphasized the significance of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Mersin, calling it “Turkey’s 70-year dream” as it represents a major milestone in the country’s energy infrastructure.

During the meeting, AK Party Osmaniye Deputy Seydi Gülsoy and AK Party Provincial Chairman Mehmet Sadi Binboğa were also present, showing solidarity and support for the development initiatives in Osmaniye.

Minister Bayraktar’s visit to the Osmaniye Governorship and subsequent meeting with Governor Erdinç Yılmaz underscored the government’s commitment to addressing energy challenges and promoting sustainable growth in the region.

Overall, Minister Bayraktar’s remarks shed light on Turkey’s efforts to enhance energy security, strengthen infrastructure, and achieve self-sufficiency in energy production, paving the way for economic prosperity and stability.
