Blooming Towns: Flowery Hungary Competition

The 32nd edition of the “Flowery Hungary” competition has officially begun, with Visit Hungary, a branch of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, calling on municipalities to submit their applications by May 15. The competition aims to acknowledge towns that have excelled in creating well-maintained, sustainable, and attractive green spaces.
This year, the main focus of the competition is on promoting climate awareness, making it the largest and most successful environmental beautification initiative in the country. Municipalities of all sizes, from small villages to large cities, including districts of the capital, are encouraged to participate. Additionally, Hungarian-speaking towns from abroad can also join for the sixth time.
Various ministries and professional organizations will provide valuable prizes to exceptional municipalities, with thematic awards recognizing achievements such as the “Town Square of the Year” and “Avenue of the Year.” There will also be an award for the “Blooming Community,” honoring outstanding local initiatives.
Last year, nearly 400 applications were submitted, showcasing a strong commitment to enhancing local environments and promoting sustainable green space management. Participation in the competition is free for all municipalities.
Furthermore, municipalities can apply in categories such as “Flowering Urban and Village Walks,” allowing tourists to explore guided tours highlighting exceptional green spaces, parks, and remarkable tree-lined avenues. The competition aims to celebrate and reward efforts towards creating beautiful, climate-conscious environments in Hungary.
