Bolu House Burns to Ashes After Struck by Lightning: Locals Take to the Streets

A lightning strike caused a fire to break out on the roof of a four-story apartment building in Bolu, leading to a chaotic scene in the neighborhood. The incident occurred on Fidan Street, Kültür Mahallesi in the evening, as heavy rain accompanied the lightning strike. The building, owned by Hüseyin Ç., quickly caught fire on the roof due to the impact of the lightning.
As residents rushed to the streets in response to the loud noise caused by the strike, they immediately reported the fire to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Health, fire department, SEDAŞ, and police teams were promptly dispatched to the scene to address the emergency. Upon arrival, SEDAŞ teams cut off the electricity in the area for safety measures, while fire department personnel commenced their efforts to extinguish the flames.
Despite facing challenges like an exploding boiler and a spreading fire, the fire teams managed to bring the situation under control after battling the blaze for about an hour. Following the successful containment of the fire, cooling operations were carried out on the roof. Unfortunately, the roof of the apartment building was left completely destroyed by the fire, with some damage extending to the 4th-floor apartment.
In the aftermath of the incident, tensions escalated between homeowners and the fire brigade over allegations of delayed response. Police intervention was necessary to defuse the heated dispute and restore order among the conflicting parties and concerned citizens.
Reflecting on the situation, apartment owner Hüseyin Çetin shared, “I was in the village when the fire broke out. They say it was caused by lightning. I had just returned.”
