Bolu Mountain Tunnel now open for traffic in Istanbul direction

The Bolu Mountain Tunnel, located on the D-100 highway, has been reopened to traffic in the Istanbul direction after undergoing necessary maintenance and infrastructure works. The 23-kilometer section between Abant-Kaynaşlı junctions was closed on July 31 to facilitate the extension of the tunnel by 67 meters and to carry out various maintenance tasks.

During the closure period, 4 expansion joints on the viaducts in the direction of Istanbul were replaced, and the concrete of 5 joints was renewed. Additionally, the concrete barriers on the left side in the Istanbul direction were replaced, and the wire mesh between the viaducts in both directions was also replaced. Maintenance of the electromechanical systems in the tunnel was carried out during this time.

After 38 days of work, the barriers and signs at the Abant Junction were removed, and traffic flow resumed on the route. The reopening of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel has also helped alleviate congestion on the D-100 highway in the region.

Despite the challenges posed by heavy rainfall during the road opening works, the completion of the project marks a significant milestone in ensuring smooth and safe traffic flow in the area. The reopening of the Bolu Mountain Tunnel signifies a step towards improved infrastructure and transportation efficiency in the region.
