Boost in Anchovy Exports: 22% Increase

Anchovy exports from Turkey have seen a significant increase, with 2 thousand tons being exported in the span of 10 months. This has resulted in a revenue of 11 million 168 thousand dollars from foreign sales, marking a 22 percent increase compared to the previous year.

According to Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), anchovies found buyers in 25 countries during this period. The top three countries with the most exports were France, Belgium, and Germany, with 4 million 7 thousand 179 exports to France, 3 million 507 thousand 586 to Belgium, and 3 million 507 thousand 586 to Germany, amounting to a total sale of anchovies worth 958 thousand 133 dollars.

In addition to these countries, anchovies were also exported to Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Iraq, Moldova, Malaysia, and Somalia. Gürdoğan emphasized the importance of implementing practices that would enable anchovies to reach larger sizes and become abundant in order to further increase the export potential.

Looking ahead, Gürdoğan expressed confidence that exports will continue to increase as the weather cools and anchovies become more abundant. This positive outlook suggests a promising future for anchovy exports from Turkey.
