British Foreign Secretary Urges Action Against Hunger in Gaza
British Prime Minister David Cameron has expressed concern over the alarming risk of hunger in Gaza, according to the Integrated Food Safety Phase Classification (IPC) report prepared by organizations affiliated with the United Nations. Cameron emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent famine in the region, calling the current status quo unsustainable.
Cameron highlighted the efforts of his country to provide aid to Gaza, mentioning that 750 tons of food aid were sent in December and 315 tons in January. However, he also noted that more aid is being blocked and called on Israel to change this situation. The Prime Minister urged for the opening of more border gates for longer periods, as well as the restoration of health services, water, and sanitation services in Gaza.
In order to address the humanitarian crisis in the region, Cameron proposed an urgent humanitarian pause in the conflict as the best way to achieve these goals. The British government is committed to supporting Gaza and ensuring that essential aid reaches those in need.
