British Prime Minister Sunak Orders Deportation of Irregular Immigrants to Rwanda
Chancellor Sunak Press Conference on Rwanda Security Bill
Chancellor Sunak recently held a press conference to discuss the Rwanda Security Bill, also known as the Rwanda Plan, which has been under scrutiny in the House of Lords, the upper house of the British Parliament. The bill aims to deport irregular immigrants arriving in the UK to Rwanda.
Sunak expressed frustration with the Labour Party Lords, accusing them of trying to block the Rwanda Plan at every turn. He emphasized that there would be no exceptions when it comes to deporting irregular immigrants to Rwanda, stating, “These planes will go to Rwanda.”
The Chancellor outlined the logistics of the plan, including increased capacity in detention centers, additional officers to process applications quickly, and preparations in courthouses to handle hearings. He revealed that commercial flights would be used to transport irregular immigrants to Rwanda, with arrangements already in place in collaboration with the Rwandan government.
Sunak noted that the process had been delayed due to opposition from Labour Lords, but assured that the first plane would take off in the coming weeks. He also stated that Rwanda planes would depart monthly throughout the summer until irregular migration across the English Channel is curbed.
In addition to the Rwanda Plan, Sunak highlighted efforts to combat human trafficking in the English Channel, including agreements with France and Albania to reduce irregular migration. He also mentioned plans to establish a similar agreement with Vietnam to address the issue of irregular immigration from that country.
Critiquing the Labour Party’s stance on immigration, Sunak accused them of lacking a concrete plan to address the issue. He emphasized the importance of national security and protecting borders, stating, “When it comes to our national security and membership in a foreign court, I prioritize our security.”
In response to a question about the European Court of Human Rights potentially interfering with the Rwanda flights, Sunak affirmed that the UK government had taken necessary steps to address concerns and ensure compliance with international responsibilities. He reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the Rwanda Plan through, despite potential legal challenges.
Lastly, Sunak addressed an incident involving a Jewish citizen and a police officer during a recent protest in London, expressing support for the Metropolitan Police Department and its director. He noted that steps were being taken to address the situation and ensure that all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully.
