BRTK declares Presidential election over

Rebirth Party Chairman Erhan Arıklı has spoken out on social media following the Parliament speaker election, where he announced the newly elected Speaker of the Assembly after 15 rounds of voting. Despite opposition claims that three votes in the “Yes” section were deemed invalid, Arıklı clarified that this does not violate the Assembly’s Internal Regulations or the Constitution.

Arıklı emphasized that the declaration of will was properly executed by sealing the “Yes” box, and if the intention of those votes was to reject, the process would have been handled differently. He also stated that, according to legal advice, the opposition has no grounds to take this matter to court as it falls under the jurisdiction of Article 95/4 of the Constitution.

Regarding the Presidential election, Arıklı declared it to be concluded, noting that the opposition will not nominate a candidate for Vice President until further clarification. In respect of this decision, the YDP previously announced their withdrawal from the next Council elections, leaving Parliament with Deputy Talip Atalay. Arıklı concluded by congratulating the new Parliament Speaker, Ziya Öztürkler.
