Meeting of the General Assembly Concludes with Discussions on Parole, Immigration, and Legislative Bills
The recent meeting of the General Assembly of the Republic Assembly has come to a close, with important discussions and updates being shared. The next meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00.
During the meeting, Minister of Internal Affairs, Dursun Oğuz, responded to Tufan Erhürman, the Chairman of the CTP. Oğuz emphasized the importance of having a forward-looking development plan that takes into account the country’s population. He stated, “The government is actively working on this issue as the future of our country is our main concern.”
One of the topics discussed was the Conditional Release Regulation. Minister Oğuz highlighted that the recent changes made to the regulation are similar to previous amendments. Currently, there are 1013 prisoners and detainees in prisons, and 89 individuals have benefited from parole out of the 247 applications received by the Parole Board since June 23, 2023.
Minister Oğuz also addressed the issue of unregistered and unauthorized individuals residing in the country. He expressed the government’s commitment to working with the Republic of Turkey to combat irregular migration, stating that unregistered individuals pose a danger to the entire population.
Another matter brought up during the meeting was the lack of information about contracted goods sales figures and recipients. Minister Oğuz assured that measures are being taken to address this issue and that the matter will be reported to the prosecutor’s office soon.
Regarding parole requests from prisoners and their families, Minister Oğuz clarified that conditional release is granted based on specific criteria and timing, emphasizing that it is not a personal decision. He also stated that there are no plans for an amnesty related to immigration at present.
In addition to the discussions on parole and immigration, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hüseyin Çavuş, addressed the purchase of carob. He mentioned that the Soil Products Agency is reinforcing its resources to complete the procurement, and a response regarding credit points is expected today.
The meeting also touched upon legislative bills. The General Assembly unanimously passed the Public Servants (Amendment No: 2) Bill, the Public Health Workers (Amendment No: 2) Draft Law, the Draft Law on Regulation of Monthly (Salaries-Wages) and Other Allowances of Public Employees (Amendment No: 4), and the Law Proposal on the Merger of Municipalities (Special) (Amendment No: 2).
Finally, the Public Service Commission and Department (Establishment, Duties and Working Principles) (Amendment) Draft Law also received unanimous approval during the meeting.
With the conclusion of today’s session, the General Assembly is set to reconvene tomorrow at 10:00.
