President Ersin Tatar calls for common sense to overcome crisis in Northern Cyprus
President Ersin Tatar of Northern Cyprus has urged parliament deputies to exercise common sense in order to navigate through a political crisis, emphasizing that the country is in need of service, not early elections.
In his remarks to the Turkish Agency Cyprus (TAK), President Tatar addressed the recent events surrounding the Parliament Speaker election. He highlighted that the current government, consisting of 29 deputies, has been serving for 2 and a half years, and emphasized that early elections are not the solution at this time.
“The people are looking for solutions to the problems in the country and expect tangible reforms. We have signed important agreements and have a government program that needs to be implemented. With 29 deputies, this government is capable of taking action,” President Tatar stated.
While emphasizing the need for serious reforms post-congress, President Tatar also criticized Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Fazilet Özdenefe, for failing to follow constitutional procedures in the Parliament Speaker election process.
“As president, I urge all MPs to resolve this issue promptly. Our responsibility to the country supersedes personal interests. Let us all act with common sense and work towards resolving this crisis for the benefit of our country,” President Tatar added.
President Tatar’s plea for cooperation and constructive dialogue comes at a crucial time for Northern Cyprus, as the country navigates through internal political challenges.
