Buda Castle’s Stunning Transformation Captured in Photos!
The facades surrounding the castle’s renowned Lions’ Court have been in need of cleaning for decades, but thanks to the Nemzeti Hauszmann Program, money and staff have been provided to address this issue. This initiative is set to enhance the beauty of Hungary’s popular royal castle that overlooks Budapest from the castle hill.
According to the Facebook page of the National Hauszmann Program, the contamination that had accumulated on the stones of the court’s main gate has been successfully removed. The employees of the program ensure to use solutions that are gentle on surfaces and pose no threat to health or the environment.
In addition to cleaning the facades, the program is also focusing on the restoration of the Fountain of the Fishing Children located near the Habsburg Gate and the Turul statue. This fountain, completed in 1900, will be treated with a protective material to shield it from UV radiation, algae growth, and fungal coverage.
The National Hauszmann Program, launched in February 2019, aims to rejuvenate the Buda Castle Palace District under the management of Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt. Their efforts have already led to the restoration of various buildings within the Castle District, bringing back its former glory from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Several castle buildings, including Archduke Joseph’s Palace and the Hungarian Defence Forces’ headquarters, are currently being rebuilt as part of the program’s ongoing efforts. Despite the devastating damages suffered during the Soviet siege of Budapest in the 1940s, the Castle District is now undergoing a revitalization that promises to bring back its historic charm.
