Budapest Airport Emerges as Europe’s Leader in Traffic Growth, CEO Predicts New Golden Age
Ferenc Liszt International Airport Named Fastest Growing European Airport in October
According to the European arm of Airports Council International (ACI Europe), Ferenc Liszt International Airport has been ranked as the fastest growing European airport in terms of passenger traffic for the month of October. The passenger numbers at Budapest Airport, which is powered by VINCI Airports, have surpassed the total for the previous year in the first ten months of this year, with expectations of continued dynamic growth in the future. The airport’s new owners and management team are fully committed to developing and expanding the airport to accommodate the expected increase in passenger numbers and to provide exceptional high-quality services.
In October 2024, passenger traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport saw a significant increase of 19.8% compared to the same month in the previous year, making it the fastest growing airport in Europe as per ACI Europe. Out of the 20 airports surveyed, only seven recorded double-digit growth in October. This growth has allowed Budapest Airport to surpass major European airports, marking a significant milestone.
Throughout the first ten months of the year, Budapest Airport has consistently set new records, exceeding the passenger traffic figures from the corresponding months in 2019. By the end of October, total passenger traffic had already surpassed the numbers for the entire year of 2023. The most popular destinations for passengers flying from Budapest during this period were London, Istanbul, and Milan.
Looking ahead, the airport operator anticipates continued growth and has already started preparations to accommodate the increased passenger traffic and future developments. Francois Berisot, the CEO of Budapest Airport, emphasized the country’s growing appeal and its impact on passenger traffic, stating that each month of this year has seen individual records broken. Plans for the construction of Terminal 3 are set to be finalized next year, with preparations for construction already underway. These upcoming developments aim to position Ferenc Liszt International Airport for a new era of prosperity, offering an enhanced experience for travelers arriving in and departing from Hungary. The commitment from the owners and management team bodes well for the airport’s future success and continued growth.
