Budapest Airport to Celebrate 75th Anniversary in 2025 with New Destinations and Events
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, also known as Budapest Airport, is gearing up to celebrate its 75th anniversary next year. Despite nearing this significant milestone, operations at the airport will continue seamlessly, with preparations already underway for 2025.
As the current travel season remains in full swing, behind-the-scenes planning for the upcoming year is already well in progress at Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The focus is on attracting new and exciting destinations, as well as implementing various improvements at the airport. In addition to these initiatives, preparations are centered around commemorating the airport’s 75th anniversary on 7 May 2025. Budapest Airport, operated by VINCI Airports, is planning a series of events dedicated to the legendary composer Ferenc Liszt, after whom the airport is named.
The airport was initially called Budapest Ferihegy International Airport when it was inaugurated on 7 May 1950. However, in 2011, on the bicentennial anniversary of Ferenc Liszt’s birth, the decision was made to rename the airport after the renowned Hungarian composer, honoring his cultural legacy. This change also incorporated the geographical name of the area where the airport is situated.
To mark the 75th anniversary of the gateway to Hungary, Budapest Airport is organizing a series of cultural events in 2025 to celebrate the life and work of Ferenc Liszt. Additionally, the airport will also acknowledge another significant milestone next year, as one of Liszt’s most famous compositions, Liebesträume (Dreams of Love), will turn 175 years old.
Francois Berisot, CEO of Budapest Airport, emphasized the importance of preserving and representing the unique values and traditions of Hungary through the airport’s operations. He highlighted the focus on celebrating the timeless values and contributions of Ferenc Liszt, along with honoring Hungarian culture and aviation during the 75th anniversary festivities in 2025.
