Budapest City Park Ice Rink Breaks Visitor Record
The Budapest City Park Ice Rink, operated by the Budapest Sports Service Provider (BSK), has concluded its skating season with a record-breaking achievement. Since opening on November 15, a total of 337,800 visitors have enjoyed the iconic ice rink, marking a 30% increase in attendance compared to the previous season (2023/2024).
The surge in visitors can be attributed to the return of foreign tourists, alongside a rise in domestic patrons. The presence of international visitors was particularly notable this season, with a 15-20% increase from the previous year. The BSK credits the diverse array of activities offered at the City Park Ice Rink for attracting visitors from near and far.
One of the standout events was the Freestyle Festival, where approximately 150 freestyle skaters from various countries showcased their skills. Due to its success, the BSK has already announced plans to host the festival again next year from January 30 to February 1.
Other popular events throughout the season included the Be Massive Horizon evening skating, Hungarian Ice Hockey Day, Night of Ice Rinks, and the celebration of the Budapest ice rink’s 155th birthday. The Hungarian Day of Skating, which took place on February 22, featured junior figure skaters and speed skaters displaying their talents on the ice.
A remarkable 147,682 pairs of skates were rented out during the season, with the rink-side gift shop and new food trucks proving to be hits among visitors. The diverse food and drink selection further contributed to the overall positive experience at the ice rink.
The City Park Ice Rink, established in 1870, is not only one of Budapest’s oldest ice rinks but also one of the largest in Europe. In the summer months, the area is transformed into a pond for boating activities, offering a unique experience against the backdrop of Vajdahunyad Castle.
As the skating season comes to a close, the City Park Ice Rink continues to be a beloved gathering spot for locals and tourists alike, providing a captivating blend of winter activities and scenic beauty.
