
Budapest Hosts International Folk Dance Festival this Summer

The 29th Danube Carnival will be taking place in Budapest from June 7th to June 14th, featuring a lineup of international and Hungarian folk dance ensembles. The Danube Art Society, the organizer of the event, has announced the participation of various groups including the Cimbaliband, the Kecskemét Dance Ensemble, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, and the Danube Art Ensemble.
Attendees can look forward to a range of activities and performances throughout the week-long cultural festival. Highlights include a carnival parade, an international dance house, and the 6th Annual FolKid Children’s Folk Art Festival. The grand finale will be a gala held at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage.
On June 8th, the FolKid Children’s Folk Arts Festival will be held, followed by performances from the Cimbaliband and the Carpathia Folk Dance Ensemble. The following day, a carnival parade will kick off the festivities in downtown Budapest, leading to a gala performance and an evening of joint performances by guest bands from various countries.
The event will continue with an international dance house at the Kobuci Garden on June 10th, and on June 13th, the 13th Chain Bridge International Folk Dance Competition will take place at the Erzsébetliget Theater. International performers will also showcase their talent at the Pomáz Cultural Center.
The Danube Carnival will come to a close on June 14th with a grand gala at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage, featuring nearly 300 foreign and Hungarian dance troupes. The evening will showcase performances from international ensembles followed by an artistic cooperation performance titled “Ode to Joy” in celebration of Hungary’s EU Presidency.
Overall, the Danube Carnival promises a vibrant celebration of folk culture and dance, bringing together artists and performers from around the world to showcase their talents in Budapest.
