Budapest International Book Festival to Feature 150 Exhibitors

The Hungarian Publishers’ and Booksellers’ Association (MKKE) will be hosting the 29th Budapest International Book Festival from September 26-29 at Millenáris Park. With almost 150 exhibitors, this event is a highlight for book lovers and literary enthusiasts.

This year, the festival’s guest of honor is the renowned Icelandic author, Jón Kalman Stefánsson, who will be receiving the prestigious Budapest Grand Prize from the Mayor of Budapest. The event will be opened by Hungarian psychologist and author Noémi Orvos-Tóth at the National Dance Theatre.

One of the main highlights of this year’s festival is the focus on France and contemporary French literature. There will be special attention given to French authors and publishers, with a series of events dedicated to showcasing their work.

Additionally, the festival will feature a European Writers’ Meeting at the Europe Point, with round-table discussions and English-Hungarian simultaneous interpretation. It will also celebrate the Hungarian-Turkish cultural year, marking the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Turkey.

The festival promises a diverse range of cultural programs, including writer-reader meetings, public readings, book signings, literary evenings, book presentations, discussions, and film screenings. All programs are free for attendees to enjoy.

Looking ahead, Romania will be the guest of honor at next year’s festival, followed by German-language literature as the focus in 2026. The Budapest International Book Festival continues to be a hub for literary exchange and celebration of diverse cultural voices.
